Bernie Sanders, to me, is the most genuine candidate we've had in years. There is a reason he is climbing in the polls each and every week. People like what they hear because he is completely honest about where he stands on the issues.

He is probably the most active candidate on Civil Rights. He voted no on illegal export tax breaks, voted to fund alternative sentencing instead of more prisons, voted yes to increase sanctuary city funding, and increasingly states the rich should be taxed more.

The man doesn't stray away from what he believes. He is not afraid to answer the hard questions. His biggest downfall is, sadly, his age. He may be spritely in his mid 70s but being the oldest candidate has never been a great selling point. He has climbed into the race but still has a lot of work to do.

The Left's Opinion

Bernie Sanders is an 'independent' from the great state of Vermont. While I disagree with just about everything that comes out of his mouth, I respect him. At least he openly admits and defends the fact that he is a socialist. He does not mince words and shoots it straight every time. He has populist appeal as he refuses to take money from special interests and large corporations.

Senator Sanders is making a name for himself on the left side of the left side of the political spectrum. He is polling well with the extreme base of the liberal movement. He has a legitimate chance of doing well in the primaries simply because the Democrats really have no one else. It is clear that Hillary is the anointed one, however, it is clear that no one is overly thrilled by another Clinton candidacy. That is where Bernie has his shot, if he can keep hammering Hillary from the left he has a chance to sneak in a couple of early victories and ride the wave to the nomination.
