Martin O'Malley is another candidate who has stayed in the picture but stayed out of the spotlight. He's pro-stem cell, wants to reinstate Glass-Steagall, supports same-sex marriage, repealed the death penalty in Maryland, and was part of the first state to pass the DREAM Act.

However, he has also come out against the TPP. He has been more moderate with a minimum wage raise to $10/hour (vice the $15). If he'd be a little more outspoken when he disagrees with the party-line, he might actually reach more voters. He isn't exactly a career politician, which has worked well for a few other candidates.

He's been a city councilman, mayor, governor, and chaired the Democratic Governor's Association. He's very likeable and plays very well on TV. He still remains a long shot. But he's been a long shot before and almost won that election.

The Left's Opinion

The former mayor of Baltimore and Governor of Maryland is running as the extreme underdog in this election cycle. He touts those accomplishments along with his time as the chair of the Democratic Governor's Association as credentials to be President. From a policy standpoint, he signed a law that allowed illegal immigrant children (or anchor babies) to be eligible for in-state college tuition. He also signed the law legalizing same sex marriage in the state of Maryland.

O'Malley is attempting to copy the success of Bernie Sanders by running to the left flank of Mrs. Clinton. He rails against income inequality and the cost of education only without the catchy hashtags and pop culture glitz of Bernie. O'Malley has a shot to gain traction if he can stand out in the debates. Therein however, lies his biggest challenge as both parties have sought to streamline the nominating process this year and limit debates. O'Malley is a very long shot, candidate.
