Jim Webb has stayed out of the spotlight. If he could get some TV time, he'd be much better off. He's probably the most moderate of all the Democratic candidates.
On the issues, he is pro-gay marriage, pro-labor, pro-women's rights, and pro-gun. He has stated the President should consult Congress when it comes to prisoner exchange. He wants to provide a Tax Break to enlisted Service Members. He agrees that we should secure the border first.
In short, he sounds like he is cut from the cloth of the middle ground. He is a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Democrat. That is probably his biggest downfall because it doesn't come off as someone who wants to stand for his principles. But to me, it just seems he jumped from party to party because the parties principles changed. He is an outlier for sure but I want to hear what he has to say.
The Left's Opinion
Jim Webb, the former Secretary of the Navy and US Senator from Virginia is my long shot, super deep sleeper candidate for the Democratic nomination. The only Democrat candidate this conservative would even remotely consider voting for. He is one of the few remnants of the old 'blue dog Democrats' or moderate Democrats not unlike Joe Liberman. With a storied military career and a many times over successful author, Webb is running to the right of Mrs. Clinton.
It is in this albeit small, but otherwise candidate less niche of the Democrat party, Jim has a shot. If he can find a way to build a coalition of what is left of the Tip O'Neil and 'Reagan Democrats' and disenfranchised Republicans tired of infighting, he can make a solid run. He, along with Martin O'Malley will need a strong debate performance. He will need to draw a strong contrast to the liberal side of the party and try to capture some of the market share from Hillary's imploding campaign.
